|If you are planning a ski vacation in Bansko, Bulgaria you might need to know how to get to the ski resort. If you are coming in Bulgaria you might come from Greece (usually by car) trough Kulata – then just follow the traffic signs.
From Turkey you will go through Trakia highway. From Romania, Serbia and all other countries you will go through Sofia. If you are from Bulgaria’s neighboring countries you are probably going to come by car. Tourists from all other countries will arrive at Sofia Airport. As most of the tourists are coming to Sofia and then heading to Bansko we will give you directions from there.
If you need the comfort of driving by yourself and going wherever you want during your vacation then the best option would be to rent a car. You can find a lot of car rental companies at Sofia Airport and near Sofia Bus & Train stations.
You need to take the road for Pernik and Blagoevgrad (Highway Struma “A3”). A few kilometers after Blagoevgrad you will see a sign for Bansko where you need to turn right. Then follow the road until you enter the town of Bansko.
The easiest and most convenient way to reach from Sofia to Bansko is transfer (airport transfer or chauffeur service). An English speaking driver will meet you at the airport, will carry your luggage to the car and drive you safely to Bansko. Another advantage of the transfers is that the driver will leave right in front of your hotel.
Like this you won’t have to worry about how to get to Bansko, if you get lost in Bulgaria, dealing with the local traffic police, etc. A professional driver will take care of your transportation. On the way back you can use the same company to transfer you back from Bansko to Sofia.
From Sofia Central Train Station take a train for Septemvri or one of the following directions: Burgas or Plovdiv. Just make sure the train stops in the town of Septemvri. This is where you need to take of and change the trains. You need to get a new train from Septemvri to Bansko.
From Sofia Airport you might need to take a taxi to Sofia Central Bus Station. Inside the station you will find many ticket booths for different bus companies. The best option for you would be to go to the right side of the Bus station where there are ticket booths which are selling tickets for all bus companies. Get a ticket to Bansko and in a few hours you will get to Bansko Bus station.
